Have been ultra busy for the past 4 months but the art of listening and following avant/underground music has not stopped. Its approaching the end of the year 2004, the following, my pros and cons of the year:
Pros:American Free Folk:Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Jackie-O Motherfucker, No Neck Blues Band, Dredd Foole And The Din, Comets On Fire, Six Organs Of Admittance, Double Leopards, Jack Rose, Pelt. Finnish Underground:Kemialliset Ystavat, Es, Circle, Paivansade. English Underground:Coil, Sunroof!, Descension, Bark!, Volcano The Bear, Vibracathedral Orchestra. Extreme Metal:Sunn0))), Khanate, Cadaver, Old Man Gloom, Meshuggah, Yakuza, Immortal, Black Sabbath, Corrupted. Other Noises:Noxagt, Sightings, Lightning Bolt, Reynols, Wof Eyes. Brilliant return of :Sonic Youth, Boredoms, Keiji Haino, Pan Sonic. Box Sets:Cecil Taylor Feel Trio, Herman Nitsch, Lawrence 'Butch' Morris, Various - Genya, Deathprod. Magazines:The Wire (of course), Sound Projector, Bananafish, The Broken Face, Terrorizer. Books: Haunted Weather by David Toop, Derek Bailey And The Story Of Free Improvisation by Ben Watson, Choosing Death by Albert Mudrian, Audio Culture by Christoph Cox.
Cons:Too many CDs, LPs and DVDs but not enough cash. Deaths-John Balance, Steve Lacy. Closure of-These Records, World Serpent. Still able to get a copy of Taku Sugimoto's Italia. World at large-deaths, disasters, man-made tragedies, wars, and the list goes on...
